The medical tourism sector has been estimated to have generated income revenues of approximately $60 billion US globally, and with expected growth rate of 20 percent annually (Delloite 2008: cited in Smith 2012). The growth and flow of dental tourism market from an economic perspective can have an implication for both home and host countries’ dental care systems. Increased awareness in Dental Tourism has been facilitated through various sources such as the internet, intermediaries (brokers, concierges and agents) and word-of-mouth (family and friends).
Therefore, our purpose is to provide a greater insight of the potential impact of dental tourism activity to assist destination managers (host countries), governmental agencies and industry professionals (both home and host countries), and to provide guidance for future development of the dental healthcare systems (both home and host countries).
