Dental Tourism is a combined activity involving dental work and travel in another country to access affordable high quality dental treatment and have a holiday. Residents from the developed countries go the distance to developing countries motivated by cost savings and for tourism experience. Various treatments such as dental implant, dental prostheses, crown replacement, root canal treatment, extraction, bridge and composite fillings are sought by patients from international dental care service providers for a significant cost savings. Increasing healthcare (including dental care) costs in developed countries are driving their residents to access cheaper dental care treatment, especially those who do not health insurance or have inadequate coverage. The ease and travel affordability have strong influence in the decision to participate in dental tourism.
Market speculations suggest that flow of dental tourists travelling into developing Asian destinations like The Philippines, India, Thailand and Vietnam is projected to increase as globalisation continues to manifest. But what do we know about the behaviours of dental tourists? What do they look for in a destination? |
